Basic Computer Skills
The computer has transformed our world, and put an infinite amount of knowledge at our fingertips. Knowing how to operate a computer is a basic skill that everyone needs. Even if you don’t plan on getting a job that involves a computer, you will likely need basic computer skills to send email, complete online forms and do basic searches.
With the right help, it’s possible for most people to learn basic computer skills. In computer skills classes, you’ll learn:
- How the computer works; how to turn it on and off.
- How to use a mouse and a touchpad. If you’ve always used a typewriter, this will feel strange. Give yourself time. Everyone goes through this transition. After playing with the hardware a while, you’ll begin to feel comfortable with it.
- How to create a text document, format it (bold, italics, etc.), save it, file it.
It may sound a bit intimidating, but stay with it. Instructors know how to work with new students. They know how to explain the functions so you understand them.
Just remember your goals. Maybe you want to send emails to family, or sign up for Facebook to find old school friends. You can shop for great bargains online, too, and save money. Let your goals inspire you to learn.
